Overview

At Boyd Chiropractic Clinic, we believe that Chiropractic is a more natural way of living and treating illness. Whether you choose to use chiropractic care, conventional medicine, or a combination of the two, we will listen carefully to your concerns and work with you to create the best treatment plan to make you well again. We stay current on scientific advances in chiropractic, yet never lose the old-fashioned caring for people.

Therapies

Chiropractic therapies are used in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments or as stand alone treatments. These methods include therapeutic stretches, therapeutic exercise, ultrasound, ice, heat, and electro-muscle stimulation.

Therapeutic Stretches

Following an injury, therapeutic stretching is an important way to prevent scar tissue from forming. Even after the injury has healed, maintaining a regular stretching program helps keep tissues flexible, increases mobility, and protects you from new injuries. We make sure you understand the proper stretching technique and will help you until you are comfortable enough to do them on your own.

Therapeutic Exercise

We commonly prescribe specific strengthening exercises for patients with back, neck, and extremity problems. These exercises can decrease pain, prevent muscle deterioration, promote joint health, increase strength, stability and range of motion, and protect against new or recurring injuries.

We will demonstrate and supervise your personalized exercise routine until you are proficient and comfortable doing the exercises on your own at home.

Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound is a form of deep heat therapy created by sound waves. When applied to soft tissues and joints, the sound waves are a form of micro-massage that help reduce swelling, decrease pain, stiffness, and spasms, and increase blood flow.

Ice

Ice therapy is often used to reduce swelling and help control pain immediately after an injury or flare-up of a chronic condition. Ice reduces the temperature of the tissues and helps to numb painful areas, constrict blood vessels, and helps relax muscle spasms. Depending on the patient's condition, a combination of ice and heat can be used.

Heat

Heat therapy is used to relax the muscles and increase circulation and can provide relief to patients with chronic pain. Heat therapy helps to speed the healing process and is often combined with ice therapy for acute injuries.

Electro-Muscle Stimulation

Electro-Muscle Stimulation therapy uses light electrical pulses transmitted to specific area of the body through electrodes placed on the skin. This type of therapy is used for pain relief or to reduce inflammation. It can also be used to control muscle spasms or even cause muscles to contract in order to reduce muscle atrophy.

Adjustments

There isn’t just one way to adjust a patient.  There are many different techniques that are beneficial to different people and for different conditions.  Below are some of the adjustment techniques we use depending on your condition.

Motion Palpation

This hand-on procedure is done to determine if your vertebrae are moving freely in their normal planes of motion.

Table adjustments

The patient lies on a special table with a "drop piece". The chiropractor applies a quick thrust at the same time the table drops. The dropping of the table allows for a lighter adjustment without the twisting positions that can accompany some other manual adjustments.

Flexion/Distraction

A chiropractic method of applying manually controlled distraction, or decompression, to specific spinal segments with the assistance of a movable table.

Lumbar Roll

The chiropractor positions the patient on his or her side, and then applies a quick and precise thrust to the misaligned vertebra, thus improving its function and motion.

Toggle Drop

This is when the chiropractor, using crossed hands, presses down firmly on a particular area of the spine. Then, with a quick and precise thrust, the chiropractor adjusts the spine. This is done to improve mobility in the vertebral joints.

Instrument adjustments

This type of adjustment is often the most gentle method of adjusting the spine. The patient lies on the table face down while the chiropractor uses a spring-loaded activator instrument to perform the adjustment.

Release Work

The chiropractor applies gentle pressure using his or her fingertips to separate the vertebrae.

Nutrition and Natural Wellness

A more natural way of living includes a more natural diet and supplements to keep your immune system strong and help you heal. We encourage our patients to live a healthy lifestyle including a healthy diet and exercise. We can provide diet and nutritional counseling for general health or to address a specific condtion.
